Melanee laying on a yoga mat in the Supported Bound Angel Pose

Live from Healthy Zen! – Supported Bound Angel Pose

Supported Bound Angel Pose

I call this the Queen of restorative poses. When supported by a bolster and blankets, the body starts to relax as we physically start to open and release the chest, abdomen and pelvis. This also allows for an energetic release in the psychological and emotional parts of the body as well. This pose helps create a feeling of support and safety as we start to unwind and relax.

This is a wonderful pose in the late afternoon if you are wound up or tired or in the evening. It’s like taking a nap, but more effective. When the Sympathetic Nervous System is fired our flight and fight response turns on. This powerful pose, Supta Baddha Konasana, kicks on the switch of the Parasympathetic Nervous System and calms the mind and body. You can stay in this pose for 5-20 minutes. Feel the effects and enjoy the benefits.
